I’ve been thinking about starting this blog for a long time.
The 50s are a big decade for women for many reasons. This is the decade when you can no longer pretend you’re not aging — no matter how genetically blessed you are.
It’s also a period of great emotional and physical change, one that many aren’t prepared for.
I know I wasn’t. One day, I was zipping along, keeping all the plates spinning — work, family, community, friends — the next, I was frozen by fear and uncertainty. It’s as if the ground disappeared from under my feet.
Yes, I know it feels like life as you knew it is over. But trust me, it’s not. Scribble “This is a beginning” on a note and tape it to your mirror so you see it every morning.
So I decided to share my experiences, along with those of other over-50 women, in the hopes that we might light the way for those younger than us.
Starting with this pearl: This is not the end, it’s a beginning.
This blog will include useful articles for over 50 women on a range of topics:
- What to expect during menopause
- Where to find (and how to follow) financial advice
- Tips on moving through the changes with confidence
- How to start dating again after divorce or loss of a partner
- Aging gracefully in the workplace
One more thing: this blog is for all women over 50 — cisgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual and ally. All are welcome here.
